Yellow Ochre natural
Titanium White
Natural Red Iron Oxide
Carbon Black
This is a unique color— a perfectly neutral grey at a precise level of lightness. If you know Williamsburg’s Munsell grey series you already know what this paint can do for you. For new-comers, this is a calibrated low-middle grey. These greys are neutral out of the tube, which requires a blend of several pigments. This paint series of neutrals is helpful for artists who want to establish values in their painting. It is a useful paint for painters who use the Munsell color system and helpful for artists managing the lightness and darkness in their painting. While it is possible to mix your own truly neutral greys, which speaking from experience is a great exercise, the task of mixing and tubing one's own color-balanced neutrals is incredibly time consuming. This is a fast way to have a perfect Munsell N4.
“Four Neutral Grays (N2, N4, N6, and N8), ground in alkali-refined linseed oil and using a combination of Titanium White, Lamp Black, and small touches of various iron oxides (Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna) to pull the otherwise too-cool mixtures back towards neutral. The Williamsburg Grays match the Munsell values nearly flawlessly across the spectrum.”
