Quinacridone Magenta
Williamsburg’s Quinacridone Magenta is a powerfully tinting, purple-leaning magenta that creates gorgeous cool tints. The consistency of this blend is a bit stiffer than the consistency of other brands and it is distinctively deeper in value when applied in masstone. The finish is more matte than other magentas. If looking for a rosier (redder) quinacridone magenta perhaps try Maimeri Puro’s Quinacridone Violet or Old Holland’s Magenta, as this color by Williamsburg is the purplest quinacridone magenta we tested. As with every color, we recommend doing independent lightfastness testing on most pigments including PR122. Overall this was the purplest PR122 we’ve tried so far.
This color is part of their Modern Colors series: “Crisp and bright, with the ability to produce strong and clean tints. Modern colors are an excellent choice for painters looking to supplement their traditional colors with higher chroma alternatives and contemporary painters looking to explore a modern palette.” This color is also part of their Landscape Colors series: “An excellent outdoor palette that allows artists to produce the wide variety of hues, shades, and tints encountered in nature.” In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints.
