Hansa Yellow 10G
See the brand notes on the Hansa Yellows. Williamsburg has extensively their pigment for this color per their Just Paint newsletter and more information is emerging about this pigment’s performance when mixed with Titanium White. We recommend doing your own lightfastness testing —this especially the case for Hansa yellows. Even colors with the same pigment codes can vary in lightfastness between brands. Pigments selected for mixing white may also play a role. See https: justpaint.org hansa-update for more information.
This color is part of their Modern Colors series: “Crisp and bright, with the ability to produce strong and clean tints. Modern colors are an excellent choice for painters looking to supplement their traditional colors with higher chroma alternatives and contemporary painters looking to explore a modern palette.” This color is also part of their Landscape Colors series: “An excellent outdoor palette that allows artists to produce the wide variety of hues, shades, and tints encountered in nature.” It is also part of their Basic Color series, recommended as, “A great set for someone just starting to paint in oils or as an introduction to our line of paints.” In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints. There were some surprises with this color. More information can be found at https://justpaint.org/astm-lightfastness-testing-for-oil-paints/.
