Yellow Ochre natural
Williamsburg’s French Raw Sienna is could be called a brown ochre, and like most genuine earth tones is unlike any that we have tested so far. The closest so far is Michael Harding Raw Sienna (also more of a brown ochre) though the Williamsburg French Raw Sienna is warmer/oranger and the Michael Harding Raw Sienna is quite cool in comparison. The hue of Williamsburg’s French Raw Sienna is somewhat of a chestnut color, in other words a warm middle brown (they put it at around 2.5Y 3/3). This Raw Sienna is not as cool/grey brown in tints as Michael Harding’s Raw Sienna, and yet Williamsburg’s French Raw Sienna is far less orange in tints than Vasari’s Raw Sienna or Old Holland’s Raw Sienna Light. Williamsburg French Raw Sienna has texture (grittiness) and dries with a mattress that is characteristic of most other earth colors.
This color is part of their French Earths Series."Our French Earth Colors provide even more depth to our offerings of natural earths coming from regions with historical importance. Natural earths provide a type of texture, physical presence and subtlety of color that synthetic iron oxides simply cannot provide”
