Brown Iron Oxide
Vasari’s Raw Sienna is extremely smooth in handling and glossy when dried. It is one of the orangest Raw Siennas we’ve tried- almost an orange ochre due to high chroma and a faint hint of red-orange in its tints. This color was justly praised by painters for being extra smooth and buttery for an earth color, and the rumors proved true when we tried it. This color also glazes easily. Vasari’s Raw Sienna was also a decently strong tinter compared to other Raw Siennas (an area of pigments where none of the colors we sampled had an exceptionally high tinting strength). Overall the Vasari Raw Sienna is a great color if you are looking for a warm, orangey Raw Sienna. Yellower offerings with a different consistency would include Old Holland (Light or Deep), and browner offerings include Michael Harding Raw Sienna or Williamsburg French Raw Sienna.
