Yellow Ochre natural
This is a glorious yellow ochre, and Vasari has the smoothest consistency out of the tube. Rublev’s Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre is similar in hue and handling, and if one adds a bit of Oleogel, the Rublev Blue Ridge Yellow Ocher comes very close to the Vasari Yellow Ochre indeed. Williamsburg’s Yellow Ochre Domestic also comes close to Vasari Yellow Ochre in hue, and Williamsburg’s Yellow Ochre Domestic also approaches a very similar consistency with the addition of a bit of Oleogel. However, in the absence of any additions, the Williamsburg Yellow Ochre Domestic has more body than Vasari’s Yellow Ochre (less glide than Vasari) as well as a more matte finish than Vasari. The Williamsburg Yellow Ochre Domestic and the Rublev Blue Ridge Yellow Ocher (both natural ochres) seemed to be slightly stronger tinters than the Vasari. Overall the Vasari Yellow Ochre is an impressively smooth earthtone which also has ever so slightly higher chroma than the other yellow ochres mentioned here. If you love paints with a lot of glide, Vasari has the smoothest consistency straight out of the tube.
