This orange ochre is almost friendly in its qualities: chromatic, bright, and unique. More orange than Raw Sienna, this is a phenomenal muted orange hue. After encountering this orange ochre we were surprised that orange ochre on the whole was not more widely discussed in painting texts and in artist paint lines as it is an incredible useful and versatile color. As far as standard earth tones, Burnt Sienna yes, Raw Sienna, sure, but we want Orange Ochre, too! This is a useful muted orange which is high chroma for an earth tone.

“Our Orange Ocher is a single pigment color made of natural iron oxide hydroxide mineral from the last remaining European company operating the Ocher deposits in the French quarries of Gargas and Rustrel nestled in a 12 mile long enclave in the heart of the Luberon Massif, the Ocher country. Iron oxide hydroxide is the principle coloring agent in ochers. This color is based on the natural mineral goethite associated with varying proportions of others mineral such as clay, chalk, and silica. They differ from other Ochers in that they contain water. In other words, the iron to which they owe their color is iron hydroxide.” -Natural Pigments
