Phthalocyanine Blue BGS
Michael Harding’s Phthalocyanine Blue yields bright tints in the blue-leaning-green region. We’ve noticed across brands that there are similarities with this pigment when bound in linseed oil, as there is a tiny chroma difference, and this is true of the Michael Harding. However, this may be a tradeoff with film strength, as linseed oil is thought to form stronger paint films. Linseed oil is used to form a more durable paint film and is known for things like eventuating in fewer surprises over the long run when dried. The paint has high tinting strength. Williamsburg’s Phthalo Blue is similar and is also bound in linseed oil. Between the two Williamsburg appears to be an even stronger tinter. However some painters struggle to handle the strong tinting quality of phthalo in mixes, so being a little weaker in tinting strength may suit some painters. Michael Harding’s version is also very strong in tinting strength.
