Winsor and Newton’s Winsor Green (Yellow Shade) is one of the yellower varieties of PG36, the version of phthalo green that leans toward yellow-green. This is a deep shamrock green. While all phthalos are strong tinters, compared to other PG36 paints in different brands this one is a moderately strong tinter. Winsor and Newton’s variety is stronger than Gamblin’s Phthalo Emerald, and weaker than premium brands. A stronger tinter with comparable chroma in the yellow greens is Richeson’s Phthalo Green Yellow Shade. Winsor and Newton’s Winsor Green (Yellow Shade) makes chromatic tints. In masstone this color has a bit of matte look in contrast to Richeson’s semi-gloss finish.
