Phthalo Green Yellow Shade
Williamsburg’s Phthalo Green-Yellowish is a deep and rich version of Phthalo Green PG36, the yellower of the two phthalo green pigments. While a strong tinter, we didn’t find it to be exceptionally chromatic in tints, though the differences among high quality phthalo greens are slight. This paint was rich in masstone. A similar paint is Michael Harding’s Phthalo Green Yellow Shade, which also had high tinting strength and a similar touch of desaturation. Between the two Williamsburg was a bit higher chroma in tints— maybe— and dried to a similar semi-gloss sheen. Another similar paint could be Richeson Phthalo Green Yellow Shade, which might be a tiny bit more chromatic.
In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints. More information can be found at https://justpaint.org/astm-lightfastness-testing-for-oil-paints/.
