Cadmium Orange
This vivid orange has stellar chroma in its class, and in hue is around 2.5Y. A color that radiates with a sunlit note, this clear bright orange also has the highest tinting strength in this exact color area that we have seen so far. Adjacent hues are Schmincke Norma’s Cadmium Orange, which is somewhat similar in tints and bit yellower in masstone. As far as how it relates to other genuine cadmium oranges you may have encountered, In hue, this color is between the middle cadmium oranges and the yellower cadmium oranges—it’s a bit yellower than Winsor and Newton’s or Vasari’s Cadmium Orange. There is also a difference in consistency as Williamsburg is creamy, smooth, and yet has enough body that it could handle some impasto, that is, it is thicker than Schmincke Norma. It is our favorite middle Cadmium Orange (we paint with several) for the daily palette. Overall high chroma, high opacity, high tinting strength and a unique hue.
