This color is a beautiful deep cherry red similar in hue to Michael Harding’s Cadmium Red Deep. The paint is a little loose and there is extra oil when it comes out of the tube, and this is fairly normal. The consistency is fairly flowing, almost like Vasari but not quite. That said, we would not really think of / recommend using this for impasto (how any color will fare as impasto is anyone’s guess). Also we don’t know exactly what oils Schmincke puts in it. The paint handles nearly as well as the highest end brands, which is notable. This is fine paint, perhaps one of the highest chroma cadmium red mediums. Cool, deep, and lively all at the same time.
