Quinacridone Violet / Rose (this pigment can be violet or magenta)
Old Holland Scheveningen Violet is Old Holland’s single pigment PV19 in the violet shade. This paint has more body than some of the other varieties of PV19. It is a decently strong tinting strength about on par with Blockx, though M Graham and Williamsburg appear to be stronger tinters. Old Holland’s Scheveningen Violet has one of the darkest value masstones; Vasari’s Ruby Violet is similarly deep or deeper, however Vasari’s PV19 turns a different dusky violet in tints than the Old Holland and most other PV19s. In the Old Holland Scheveningen Violet, there is a slight bit of cloudiness when it has been applied Semi-Opaquely with a palette knife on panel. The bit of chalkiness is less noticeable once dried. The hue is a bit more toward blue in glazes and tints though both are definitely the red-violet, and it is a small difference of degree in comparison to other PV19 violets.
