Cadmium Orange
Rublev Cadmium Orange is like bottled essence of orange— a single drop of this fluid paint can change a mixture. This belongs in the category of high chroma cadmium oranges that lean red. A paint that is similar in hue but different in handling is Old Holland’s Cadmium Orange. Old Holland’s is characteristically stiff-creamy while Rublev’s is almost self-leveling. This paint would lend itself to color field painting. Rublev’s version of Cadmium Orange quickly became a favorite. This paint is intensely pigmented and yet very loose in comparison with other brands— almost liquid. Despite the red-orange hue of this particular orange, the paint had a way of brightening mixtures. The loose quality was a welcome addition when blending into to mixes of stiffer paint from other brands as the Rublev Cadmium Orange leant an ease to mixtures. Highly recommended for an intense concentrated elixir of orange, we also recommend mixing this orange with other paints or used alone in more flowing, self-leveling applications.
