Cadmium Red
Rublev’s Cadmium Red Maroon is a dusky red with high opacity and strong tinting strength. There is not really a perfect match for this hue in the Munsell color atlas, somewhere around 5R 3/6 seems close. In some ways this paint is unique— it dries matte and has a high tinting strength. It is ever so slightly more violet than two similar hues: Maimeri Puro’s Red Purple and Old Holland’s Cadmium Red Purple. For context, all of these colors lean more violet than Williamsburg’s Cadmium Red Deep and RGH’s Cadmium Red Purple. However this can be a bit confusing, since none of these colors approach the depth of the reddish plum tone of Williamsburg’s Cadmium Purple. The Rublev Cadmium Maroon is more matte than Puro’s chromatic Red Purple, and also Old Holland’s Cadmium Red Purple. In terms of hue, Rublev’s Cadmium Red Maroon is a nice interstitial step between Williamsburg’s Cadmium Red Purple and Williamsburg’s Cadmium Purple.
