Tin Yellow
This paint is a light middle yellow. Just as a general announcement, this paint is toxic. It goes beyond our capabilities at the Paint List to comment on every pigment that has toxicity, as are artists, not toxicologists. Please consult the manufacturer MSDS for safety information. We also recommend that everyone do their own research about every paint they work with regarding safe handling and proper precautions. A similar paint to this one is Rublev’s Lead-Tin Yellow. It’s possible Rublev’s version (or our tube of it, since these specialty pigments like Lead-Tin Yellow seem to vary a bit from time to time) is a bit higher chroma than this Lead Tin Yellow Lemon. The consistency of the Michael Harding is a little thicker and more integrated as we had a bit more separation in the tube over time with the Rublev. Both are lovely high-lightness yellows. The Rublev seems ever so slightly more toward a bright yellow with a green leaning whereas the Michael Harding is a tiny bit warmer. The big surprise for us in the naming of the paints was that Michael Harding’s Lemon Yellow PY31 (also toxic) is a lot more lemon-yellow, that is a lot more of a bright, light yellow that leans green, than the Lead Tin Yellow Lemon. The Lead Tin Yellow Lemon may dry a bit lighter than Lemon Yellow in the end, if the painted swatches on the outside of the tubes are an indication.
While this color is listed as vegan please be advised that like all lead colors it is extremely toxic. Please do your own research on all artists oil colors and their toxicity.
