Alizarin Crimson
This is a gorgeous color which is not known for its lightfastness in general. It has a gel like impasto feel. As of late 2023 Gamblin announced they will remove genuine Alizarin Crimson from the student range (Gamblin 1980) as well as the can format in the professional line due to changes in the wider pigment industry. At the time of this writing it can still be found in the Artists Oil line. Jackson’s published an article with a comparison of Genuine Alizarin Crimson vs. its replacement in the 1980s oil student line, which may be useful in the future for gauging color differences: https://www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2024/03/05/a-closer-look-at-gamblin-colour-changes/. We tested an older tube of the Alizarin Crimson and it has great depth and glide.
Gamblin classifies the color temperature as cool.
