Titanium White
Radiant White is a totally different kind of color from their Titanium White even though they both list PW6 as the pigment. The Radiant White comes across as lightweight, almost fluffy, and almost reminds one of whipped cream except it is glossy when wet. There is a melting, curved-edges kind of quality to this color and yet is also very buoyant when moved around with the palette knife. This color shows the versatility of Gamblin as a brand as well as variety in giving painters different experiences from which to choose. Painter lore has it that this is one of the brightest white paints out there. This paint is higher in tinting strength than Gamblin’s Titanium White (regular) as well as higher than their Flake White Replacement.
“Simply put, Radiant White is the brightest white oil color we make. Safflower is paler than linseed oil which means that Radiant White is not only brighter, but it is more neutral in temperature compared to linseed oil-bound whites. With its high load of titanium dioxide, Radiant White reflects back 97% of the light that falls on it.” -Gamblin Artist Oils. Gamblin describes this texturally as one of the softest of their white paint colors, meaning that it has the least textural resistance. It is indeed very soft. it is also slow drying, and Gamblin estimates “about five days in thin layers”.
