As as aside, Old Holland’s naming scheme denotes reformulations or imitations of pigments by naming them Extra instead of “hue”. This color is interesting because it is their Alizarin Crimson Hue. What makes it notable is that their Genuine Alizarin Crimson is also sold as an “Extra” or “hue” color — genuine Alizarin could be considered a hue of the original historical color Madder Lake Crimson. So their Genuine Alizarin Crimson is Madder Lake Crimson Extra, while the Alizarin Crimson hue is their Alizarin Crimson Lake Extra.
