Yellow Ochre natural
A terrific yellow ochre that we’d recommend as a standard color on the palette. A very similar paint would be Williamsburg’s Yellow Ochre Domestic or Vasari’s Yellow Ochre - the latter if you’re really into extra smooth consistency. Rublev’s Blue Ridge Yellow Ocher is relatively smooth, it is high tinting for a natural ochre, and at just the right note on the spectrum for paints with this name (i.e. just right for a yellow ochre, not too grey, not too deep). Rublev’s Blue Ridge Yellow Ocher is almost imperceptibly oranger than Williamsburg’s Yellow Ochre Domestic, and in tinting strength the two seemed comparable. The handling of Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre is more similar to Vasari’s Yellow Ochre, which was a touch less high powered in tints than Rublev. Adding the slightest bit of Oleogel brings this paint even closer to Vasari’s, however even out of the tube the two felt similar. Rublev’s Blue Ridge Yellow Ocher is wonderful to work with, and an excellent choice for a go-to Yellow Ochre.
