Cadmium Yellow Medium and Deep
Gamblin’s Cadmium Yellow Medium is a middle yellow which has a slightly orangey undertone in tints (about half of cadmium yellows in this color space go a bit more orange in tints, the others go more yellow in tints). Comparisons could be made to Vasari’s Cadmium Yellow Light and maybe Michael Harding’s Cadmium Yellow (which is like their medium color). Gamblin’s Cadmium Yellow Medium is a decent tinter. RGH and Michael Harding were stronger tinters. This is an impasto color though it is not as stiff as Gamblin’s Cadmium Yellow Light.
A previous description of this color reads, ”Cadmium Yellow Medium is a pure medium yellow that is ideal as the warm yellow foil to a cool yellow in the Primary Yellow region of a balanced mixing palette.“ -Gamblin Oils. Gamblin categorizes this color as Warm.
