Yellow Ochre natural
Italian Yellow Ochre is a gorgeous natural ochre with a large particle size and gritty texture. This paint is a sister paint to Williamsburg’s Italian Lemon Ochre, which is slightly lighter and leans a bit more toward yellow. Williamsburg’s Italian Yellow Ochre has a lemon ochre nature along with it’s sibling pigment. In tints this paint goes more toward a neutral yellow gold (ever so slightly) than even the Italian Lemon Ochre. This paint has a lovely transition from masstone to thinned out areas and a velvety matte finish. It sounds strange to say as it is true of every paint to a degree— side by side with the Italian Lemon Ochre one can imagine the paintings that could be made. Perhaps these two notes have been struck together in paintings of the past. This paint along with the Italian Lemon Ochre are luminous when thinly applied. Please bear in mind this is a highly textured paint that is best used in advanced or specialty applications, however this is part of its charm and lends to its special abilities.
This color is part of their Signature Color series: “Throughout Williamsburg's history, exploration and experimentation have led to the development of several unique colors. The Signature Colors set contains 8 colors representative of these discoveries.” “One of the crown jewels of the Williamsburg line, these colors completely redefine the experience of earth colors, which are typically seen as drab and unexciting. These particular pigments are rare and come from the same mining regions in Italy made famous by the great Sienese and Florentine masters. Prized for their authenticity, they have been used by many conservators and restorers and sought after by both traditional painters looking to connect to the traditions of the past, as well as contemporary painters looking for a more expressive, physical presence in their palette. We take great care not to over-mill these, instead allowing the presence of the pigment to be felt and preserving the larger crystalline facets of the minerals, which ultimately allows for a stunning interplay of rich masstones playing off brilliant undertones.” -Williamsburg Catalog
