Irgazin Yellow/Azo Green
This is a great variety of green gold. The masstone is fairly deep and the paint is chromatic when spread thinly. The consistency is short, and the paint wants to cohere with itself, but it is not sticky. Though glossy the paint didn’t have a long glide. It’s workable and in tints it reveals a fascinating yellow green. The color in tints doesn’t exactly look like Nickel Yellow but the two together feel friendly, and certainly seem like they visually belong in the same painting.
This color is part of their Modern Colors series: “Crisp and bright, with the ability to produce strong and clean tints. Modern colors are an excellent choice for painters looking to supplement their traditional colors with higher chroma alternatives and contemporary painters looking to explore a modern palette.” In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints. Green Gold in particular yielded complex results and a lot of surprises. More information can be found at https://justpaint.org/astm-lightfastness-testing-for-oil-paints/.
