Cadmium Red
This is a stand-out paint which is not perfectly matched in hue by any of the cadmiums we’ve tried. It is a bright cherry red cadmium that has a similar hue as Michael Harding Cadmium Red. The hue is lovely and is in between the two Michael Harding reds (regular and Deep). The Vasari kind of feels like the way a paint would behave if it were a blend of a quinacridone and a cadmium, though it behaves like a cadmium in tints. The main takeaway with this color besides the chroma is the handling. Vasari's Cadmium Red Medium is oil rich and drips off the palette knife. This color lends itself to thin applications. An alternative to this color is the slightly cooler Michael Harding Cadmium Red Deep, which is a little darker in masstone than Vasari and also not quite as bright in tints but it has more heft to it. However, speaking of tinting, both Michael Harding Cadmium Reds (deep and regular/medium) are stronger tinters. Overall Vasari's Cadmium Red Medium a beautiful red which is very smooth.
