This is lovely Cadmium Red light which compares very favorably to the best kinds of its class. This paint has similarities to both Old Holland’s Cadmium Red Light as well as Vasari’s. In handling it has a bit of the plasticine flow that we associate with Old Holland, and it might be a good candiate if you’d like a slightly less stiff version of Old Holland. In hue it was similar to Vasari. Neither Vasari nor the Schminke Norma Cadmium Red light is a very strong tinter. The Norma Cadmium Red light appears just a smidge closer to orange than the Michael Harding, though the difference is slight. Our estimate for hue is a little oranger than 6.8 R which is where Rublev’s Cadmium Red Light is situated.
