Ivory Black or Bone Black
We understand why this is designated as a hue as it is not (thank goodness) made of real charred Ivory. It seems Old Holland has in its pigment archives real Ivory Black from the olden days when this abominable practice was still in effect. It is unclear whether this color could still be purchased, as presumably genuine pigment is listed in the “ancient pigment” lines. So while this color is technically a hue or imitation, we just wanted to point out that PBk9 (the pigment in this paint) is indeed still made from animal bones. Since vegan issues in paint are a contemporary concern, if you are looking for a vegan alternative to Ivory Black, you will need to keep looking. Many modern Ivory Black paints are made with PBk9.
