Perylene Maroon, a Valuable Red

Perylene Maroon, PR179, one of the painter’s secret weapons and an unsung hero of the palette. This pigment is one of those off-the-beaten path colors that truly end up being delightful.

It has a way of mixing to make shadows, doing a tango down the stairs of lightness, muting blues, and doing backflips mixed with oranges. When handling colors for realistic painting it won a place on the palette.
