BON Maroon (calcium)
This Monoazo crimson pigment has inadequate lightfastness (as low as 3 in tints, and really not all that much better in other categories). It is found in at least one artist oil paint line despite the poor lightfastness.
In Monona Rossol's research we noticed a note about potential serious health issues that could arise when this pigment is metabolized, as a derivative may create a carcinogen, so please consult her work.
PR63:1 pigment data from David G. Myers, The Color of Art Pigment Database, Artiscreation.com,
Rossol, Monona. The Artist's Complete Health and Safety Guide. New York, NY : Allworth Press, 2001. The book is rather dated, updated information is available from her website.
Poor
Not lightfast enough for us, as it is the low end of moderate to poor. May fall to BWS 3. 1980s era tests from the NPIRI report slight fading in masstone and appreciable fading in tints in both outdoor and indoor exposure tests.
Semi-Opaque
Lower Concern
