Pyrazoloquinazolone Orange

PO67

Pigment Description

One of the modern oranges that crops up in paint lines now and then. While not the most lightfast orange, it is not the worst, either. While not quite lightfast enough for our purposes, it is otherwise a nice red-orange that tints well, and retains high chroma in tints.

Pyrazoloquinazolone Orange does not turn as pink in tints as PO73 (Pyrrole Orange) does— so in other words, PO73 makes a slightly rosier pink than PO67. Interestingly, Pyrazoloquinazolone Orange doesn't seem to move Munsell hue much in tints, and is a bit oranger/yellower overall than PO73 with a bit less chroma as well and a bit more opacity.

PO67 has a bold bright middle orange in masstone. It is not officially rated by the older ASTM standard, however it does appear to have some lightfastness issues. It is estimated to be somewhere around an ASTM II in watercolor, but Bruce MacEvoy recommends caution. In oil, a couple of paintmakers give it high marks, so it may be worth doing your own lightfastness tests using the mixing white of your choice.
