Orange GP
One of several Benzimidazolone Oranges, this pigment could be said to be a middle orange, but the version we've encountered leans ever so slightly toward the red-oranges (for example, most samples we've seen of another Benzimidazolone Orange, PO62, are more yellow-orange than Schmincke's PO64). A rarely found artist pigment, used by one paintmaker in oils. In watercolor, Schmincke's version is a lovely bright clear orange. It is semi-transparent, and it fills a nice niche in their color spectrum of pigments. Unlike some transparent pigments, the masstone is not very dark, and the masstone reads quite orange. In hue, Benzimidazolone Orange PO64 is one slight step closer to middle orange than Schmincke's Cadmium Red Orange pigment, which is a little deeper in lightness. PO64 has moderately good lightfastness, and Schmincke gives their version, Saturn Red, four out of five stars, which equates to very good lightfastness, with five stars tending to be reserved for highest lightfastness pigments such as earth tones. Artiscreation lists 7;6 for Blue Wool Scale readings, which is a little lower than ideal.
