Manganese Ferrite Black
A deep cool bluish-black spinel pigment. There is some blurriness around this pigment sometimes, as we have seen it listed alongside PBk26 sharing the same name with a different C.I. number.
With PBk26 it shares reflectance in the near-infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths. It also has high opacity.
We have seen a couple of versions of this pigment with less than 58% iron oxide. Also some versions are synthetic and others are natural, though both seem to be marked PBk33.

Potential Hazard
Avoid dust and spray. Due to mangnanese content we do not recommend working with it in dried form. The work of Monona Rossol through her site here has some information. We have also heard anecdotal reports about manganese exposure in dry pigment form. Spinel pigments may have unstudied hazards as far as health and safety. We are not toxicologists so please consult the relevant experts. Treat all pigments and paints with studio safety protocols.
