Blue Frit
Copper Frit
Copper Calcium Silicate
This incredible, mysterious pale blue may be among the oldest synthetic pigments, and it is similar to Han Blue. The methods for its manufacture were rediscovered in modern times. One of its curious properties is that it can emit infrared light when green or red light is shone onto it.

This fascinating historical blue was produced in Ancient Egypt. Sky blue pigments are somewhat rare, and this one was made by heating various elements to over 1500 degrees F (1526 degrees to be exact, or 830 degrees celcius, though other sources suggest even higher temperatures).

We've heard Egyptian Blue doesn't make the best oil paint, and was more popular in watercolor. Interestingly it comes in shades from a deep blue to a light blue. Even the samples we've purchased vary a bit in color.

In terms of toxicity, it may contain free silica, so do not breathe the dust and consult the proper experts for proper gear and safe handling of the dry pigment.
