Sometimes spelled sandalum, this is another name for Sandalwood. A natural dye with a range of reds from dark red, to warm red to violet depending on the process used. In her book on Natural Palettes Sasha Duerr describes the textile range of colors as, "Warm earthy pinks and browns to moody grays and rich, bluish charcoals."
